Acoustic Ecology

Todays Sonic Art lecture looked at soundscapes and field recording. This is an area that I have a huge amount of interest in with several of my own musical works taking shape around location recordings and investigating acoustic environments. (Two examples, ‘Bath City Test Piece’ and ‘Deaf To’ can be found here)

We were introduced to an organisation called the World Forum For Acoustic Ecology.

In their own words they are, “individuals who share a common concern with the state of the world’s soundscapes.”

Their work focuses on a need for improved listening abilities and the preservation of natural sound environments. Like me, they are concerned with the increase in ‘noise pollution’ caused by modern living.

They have some incredibly interesting ideas and also produce an annual journal which can be downloaded from their site.
