A Few developments on the Generative Music project I posted about earlier.

I made a few adjustments to the patch last week, and I think it’s largely finished. And by that I mean, I think I have the best realisation of the original idea – to make any further changes would be to change the initial idea of the patch, so perhaps best saved for a future project.

One of the more noticeable changes made was to swap the glockenspiel sample for a cello sample – for some reason this seems to create a more ‘authentic’ end result.

A demo of the patch can be heard here.

More importantly though, I have created a PdDroidParty version of the patch that can be executed on an Android mobile device, via the fantastic PdDroidParty app.

You can download the Pure Data patch for this from here, along with a brief Read Me file, and an MP3 of the patch in action. (Please let me know of any issues accessing the patch – (I’m not really a DropBox user))

I’d be really grateful of any feedback on the patch, so if you do download it, please drop me an email with your thoughts.

The next step is to package the patch as an actual application. It can be done, but will need me to revisit an IDE, and learn a little about how Android apps are packaged, but hopefully I’ll figure it out – I’m looking forward to being able to share this music generator in a more straightforward way.
